MU Women's Volleyball Sweeps Home Tri-Match

The Misericordia University women's volleyball team won a pair of matches to give head coach Colleen Stengel her first home victory, with a tri-match sweep, Saturday on Doc Mould Court.


The Cougars swept both Kean and Farmingdale State, 3-0, while breaking a three-match losing streak to Kean.


Jenna Schuda had 12 digs and 34 assists in a 27-25, 27-25, 25-23 win over Kean. Jessica Cleveland had a team-high four aces and Keira McCaffrey led the Cougars with six blocks.


Meghan Peters had a team-high 15 kills and recorded a season-high 14 digs.


Misericordia led most of the opener before Kean scored six straight points to take a 19-15 lead. The Cougars faced match-point in each of the first two sets but rallied to win both sets.


Down 24-22 in the opener, MU closed on a 5-1 run, including two kills from McCaffrey.


Peters kept MU alive in the second straight and combined with Cassandra Genduso and Rachael LoFaso on a 3-0 run to close the set.


The Cougars tallied 14 kills in the third set to finish the sweep.


Against Farmingdale State, the Cougars maintained a strong lead in the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-11, but had to rally for a 25-23 win in the finale.


Jennifer Nicometo led the Cougars with 10 kills and three aces and Schuda tallied 19 assists and 11 digs.


In the first set, the Cougars tallied 13 kills and went on 6-0 run to take a 24-13 lead.


The second set was driven by 13 attack errors by the Rams, leading to the 14-point differential at the end of the set.


Farmingdale State immediately claimed the lead in the third set and took advantage of the Cougars waning energy. Ultimately, 12 kills for the Cougars balanced the scoreboard with 12 errors from the Rams.
